Taiwanese Potter Yang Hui Ting creates beautiful pieces inspired by textures weathered by the passage of time, such as the discoloured surfaces of old painted wood or metal. The effect is achieved by her careful layering of coloured clay slips. Combined with her daily experiences with tea as she works with her potter-tea master husband Feng Jian Zhou, her beautiful pieces are made functional for the modern tea brewer. The choice of clay slips for this piece is meant to reflect an distressed industrial style, which is juxtaposed onto the traditional form of a gaiwan.

This piece is fired by both a electric kiln and gas kiln in the reduction method.
