Taiwanese Potter Yang Hui Ting creates beautiful pieces inspired by textures weathered by the passage of time, such as the discoloured surfaces of old painted wood or metal. The effect is achieved by her careful layering of coloured clay slips. Combined with her daily experiences with tea as she works with her potter-tea master husband Feng Jian Zhou, her beautiful pieces are made functional for the modern tea brewer. This particular gaiwan is glazed internally with a dark shino glaze, which produces a gentler brew of teas. 

This piece is fired by both a electric kiln and gas kiln in the reduction method.
