By Yukiko Saito, Tokyo, Japan.
We like Yukiko's pieces for its understated beauty and functional brewing considerations. As a potter who practices Chinese Tea Ceremony, she creates pieces that are both easy to use, and reflects the calm spirit and clean aesthetics of the sort of Chinese Tea brewing that we admire! This particular piece has a clean and sleek Japanese style, combined with the practicalities for smooth brewing.
This shibordashi is perfect for brewing teas that requires longer steeping times, like aged white teas, lighter oolongs and certain hongchas. The black clay retains more heat compared to the white clay, and the unglazed nature may reduce the fragrance but adds more intensity into the flavour of the brewed tea. A simple shiboridashi that will match most teaware easily!
