When it comes to raw puers, many of our well-meaning traditional tea friends tell us we must drink them old. The older, the more mellow, more calming and more soothing the tea is, they say. However, we like our puers young, nubile and delicate, as they are more refreshing and lively! This lot completely embodies the happy youth of the sort of young puers that we are besotted with! In the loose form, the flavours are more focussed on vibrant sweetness with a lilt of cool breeze, like rock sugar! Though young, this raw puer is of a gentle character, without the harshness that many associate with young raw puers. The trees aren't old in the world of puer plants, at only about 50 years old. But this Meng Ku big-leaf cultivar batch has excellent growing conditions at an altitude of 2400m. When brewed with mineral water, the sweet, very light plum notes are embedded in a cottony-soft textured liquor. For those unfamiliar with raw puers and more accustomed to the dim-sum type of ripe puers, this tea will be more similar to what one would expect of a white or very light oolong!
