Meizi 美子, Tainan, Taiwan
Meizi first fell in love with art, then she met tea. Her real joy is in making teaware with forms and textures that are creative and artistic, and developed the functionality of teaware over time as she accumulated tea-brewing experience.
Meizi's most distinctive pieces are her bright coloured Gaiwans, with playful and bold in their forms and textures in an attempt to revitalise the traditional look of Gaiwans. Her Gaiwan pieces are striking and functional pieces of art, which she uses daily to brew her tea.
This gaiwan has a meticulously textured exteriorly with grainy clay slip in pink, brown and white clay slip . The bright golden interior contrasts beautifully, creating an gaiwan that pretty and opulent at the same time! The glazed interior and exterior of the gaiwan suits the pot to brew all teas, though Meizi prefers brewing lighter oxidized more delicate teas with this gaiwan.
