Yukiko Saito, Tokyo, Japan
We first got acquainted with Yukiko's items when we chanced upon them in at an exhibition in Taipei! As a ceramic artist who also brews tea, she makes teaware that are practical for tea brewing. We think her gaiwan pieces have a rounded compact proportion, which gives it a somewhat 'kawaii' form. This particular one is adorned with the grooves, which together with the industrial black glaze with a metallic sheen, gives the gaiwan a muted ageless character!
The glazed nature of the gaiwan suits it to brew all types of teas. Yukiko especially recommends brewing Wuyi Mountains Yancha (Rock Teas) with this series of gaiwans!
