Fired in wood kiln at 1250 degrees celcius fired with beech and pine wood.

We started using Jiri Duchek's teaware long before we carried them on our webstore. If you asked us why, it has to be that simple smooth curves in the form of the pots that we were drawn to. The lines are clean but soft - in the current world where aesthetics which can be rich and impressive, the quiet understated beauty of his teapots captured our attention. We think this reflects his straightforward and sombre character, with a focus in simplicity, which he embraces.
Mr Duchek lives in a region rich in ceramic materials and harvests his clay personally. This teabowl is made from a blend of 4 clays with the Kohiki method of layering with white clay slip of kaolin and a dash of feldspar, fired in a woodkiln after. Mr Duchek baptizes all his pots in tea after they are out of the kiln. We asked if he used specific teas for baptism - just anything he is drinking, he said. His daily drinks are mainly Dark and White Chinese or Indian Teas. This teabowl/chawan should beautifully over time with use.
