We started using Jiri Duchek's teapot long before we carried them on our webstore. If you asked us why, it has to be that simple smooth curves in the form of the pots that we were drawn to. The lines are clean but soft - in the current world where aesthetics which can be rich and impressive, the quiet understated beauty of his teapots captured our attention. We think this reflects his straightforward and sombre character, with a focus in simplicity, which he embraces.
Mr Duchek lives in a region rich in ceramic materials and harvests his clay personally. This teapot is made from a blend of 2, a blend he likes because of the control he has over forming the shapes. It is reduction fired to achieve the black colour of the pot, and he shared that his customers prefer the pot for darker oxidised.
Mr Duchek baptizes all his pots in tea after they are out of the kiln. We asked if he used specific teas for baptism - just anything he is drinking, he said. His daily drinks are mainly Dark and White Chinese or Indian Teas.
This little teapot is perfect for kungfu style brewing for small groups.
