Another exquisitely sculpted pot by Korean potter Mr Hong, with a gorgeous form decorated by carved lines. The gorgeous rugged, aged texture is created by first applying a black glaze after bisque fire, then layering with a watery ultra refined clay slipped of a bright red or orange colour called Terra Sigillata after second firing, then firing for the final third time. The uneven coverage of the Terra sigillata gives this piece a 'worn by the passage of time' character, further exacerbated by the kintsugi scars on the rim and at the handle of the lid. It's indeed a piece that has been through a lot - 3 firings and 2 kintsugis!
This pot of a jaded character is likely good for darker oolongs, hongchas (black teas), dark teas and aged whites, as its clay body is likely to retain heat. The tall shape of the pot does help to accentuated the fragrance of teas. For those who would like a teapot with a personality to remember!
