Black and White Collaboration with Qi Pottery.
Life is never just purely black or white, but pottery can be! The potter Whye Kee is where he is today because he has been sculpted by his turbulent past, but we have been fortunate to have experienced his kind, light hearted and simple ways. Thus this black and white series actually beautifully captures our impressions of him.
The White series is glazed interiorly and exteriorly with a white matt glaze that is applied on with a Chinese ink brush. The resulting soft cottony texture matched with the simple shape of the pot and the hand-carved lines cumulate into this elegant little gaiwan. Do note that the soft white glaze may colour over time with brewing, which is akin to the pot maturing over time.
Whye Kee recommends the white wares for folks who enjoys the tea flavours focussed in the fragrance of the tea, and the black wares for those who enjoy the flavours to be more intense on the tongue in the brewed liquor.
