Among all the tea growing areas in Taiwan, Alishan is probably one of the most well known! Though not the highest tea growing region in Taiwan, the teas from Alishan are known for their more pronounced fragrance. This particular batch is harvested from 梅山 Mei Shan at an altitude of about 1100 masl, so still considered a High Mountain Oolong 高山茶, which technically in Taiwanese oolong terms refer to lightly oxidized rolled-up style oolongs grown at 1000masl and above! Made from Jin Xuan cultivar 金萱, this tea is moderately oxidized and unroasted, resulting in a sugar cane and chrysanthemum sweetness on a mildly vegetal base. For folks who don't like their Taiwanese High Mountain Oolong too green, and still want an unroasted, refreshing brew, this oolong will have to be the choice!
