Wakocha 和紅茶 refers Japanese Hongcha, or black tea in western terms. The flavours tend to be milder, more delicate and less astringent, somewhat similar to Taiwanese Hongcha. This tea is made of Soufu 蒼風 cultivar, which translates to ‘Green Wind’. A relatively rare cultivar, it is a hybrid of Yabukita and an Indian Assamica plant that was first cultivated in Shizuoka in 1977, with the eventual successful cross registered in 2002. When brewed, the initial flavours are of roasted sesame and rose. After multiple brews, the floral note transforms into Jasmine highlights. A delicate and smooth brew for lovers of gentler Hongchas.
