Wakocha 和紅茶 refers Japanese Hongcha, or black tea in western terms. The flavours tend to be milder, more delicate and less astringent, similar to Taiwanese Hongcha! Afterall, the Japanese were the ones who introduced black tea cultivation into Taiwan in the 1900s! Benifuuki is a hybrid cultivar that was registered in 1993. When made into green teas, the catechins specific to Benifuuki have an anti-allergy effect. This effect unfortunately is lost in black teas, as catechins are destroyed during the black tea manufacturing process. Fortunately, in black teas, Benifuukis are immensely fragrant! This lot has a complex fragrant character that evolves with multiple brews - the scented wood fragrance softens into a floral nose!
