Peony has a special significance in oriental cultures, and in Korean is thought of as the 'flowers of wealth', which signifies nobility and prosperity. Mr Park painstakingly created the peony leaf motif by first applying white clay slip on the pot, drawing on the leaf design then scratching off the clay slip after. If Buncheong's had its roots in rustic and simple daily ware for the war weary common-folks in Korean history, this is as far from common-ware for a Buncheong as possible! Beautifully paired with a muted shade of a wooden handle made from Guaiacum tree, this elegant kyusu, in our opinion, reflects Mr Park's conscientious and deliberate artistic approach to his teaware. Glazed interiorly and exteriorly, this pot is suited to brew most teas but care is to be taken with green teas, which would require an even lower temperature to counteract the (comparatively) heat retaining thickness of the pot.
