These simple elegant teacups by Boesong based South Korean potter Ms Lee Hye Jin may look like simple cups, but the effort that went into their making was anything but easy. Moulded with very thin walls, the production process was a delicate one. Glazing was more difficult with the angles interiorly and the very thin clay the glaze had to coat, handling was a dainty process and even firing required extra care due to the thin walls. Ms Lee's husband fellow potter Mr Hong who helped out in the process remarked ' I carried each piece like a baby!'
After all the effort, the finished cup is a beauty to behold. With dainty little feet, super thin porelain walls with a tinge of blue of the oak-ash glaze, this cup is suitable to drink all teas in. We use a pair as our own regular tasting cup because porcelain does not affect the flavours of tea, and accentuates textured layers of tastes and aroma!
