We have an affinity for dark pieces. Like this gorgeous raw, rustic teapot. Made from iron rich clay, with natural ash fall during the Saggar fired process, creating a rugged little teapot. The 'Saggar-fired' process involves items placed in a high temperature resistant ceramic box, where the items undergo more extreme reduction reactions as oxygen is more limited in such conditions. Mr Hong places wood ash and sea shells in these 'Saggar' boxes, which results in a 'wood-fired' quality to the items.
This teapot is unglazed interiorly. The high temperature firing and the clay body composition results in a clay that is likely less porous to absorb flavours. We recommend brewing more oxidized tea with this teapot.
