This gorgeous little teapot with delicate imprint and carvings are both at once intricate and raw! Made with rough clay, and left unglazed, this teapot needs to be dedicated to a certain type of teas as it will absorb flavours once seasoned. The 'Saggar-fired' condition, where items are placed in a high temperature resistant ceramic box, causes it to undergo more extreme reduction reactions as oxygen is more limited in such conditions. Mr Hong places wood ash and sea shells in these 'Saggar' boxes, which results in a 'wood-fired' quality to the items. This teapot is lightly more suitable for aged white teas, darker oolongs and hongchas, but can potentially work with lighter oolongs and heichas.
