Buncheong style is traditional Korean style, white white clay slip and transparent glaze over over a clay body. It was used most during the turmoil years during Korea's history, where functionality of the wares were prized over their beauty. Nowadays, buncheong wares are made with aesthetic in mind as well. We love how this particular one contrasts with the rough stony clay body, which further accentuates the beauty of the white glaze.
White buncheong wares do change over time with tea. As the tea colour seeps in, the wares can become darker - a little like maturing with exposure to tea. For folks who wish to keep the colour as white as possible for a longer period of time, we would suggest using this for cooling water, as the Japanese Katakuchi was originally meant to do. Otherwise, using this with lighter teas will probably stain more slowly compared to darker teas.
