Kim Whye Kee of Qipottery is a personal friend of ours who had always preferred to make bigger teaware but was persuaded by us to produce some little Gaiwans for Pekoe and Imp's webstore. They are made of a Singaporean Clay Blend which is of a very limited stock, as Singaporean clay are generally not most suitable for pottery making, thus the limited quantity. The clay is very porous and rough in nature, and Whye Kee has decided to glaze the gaiwan with transparent glaze to prevent the staining of the light clay by tea seeping into its pores.
The transparent glaze of this gaiwan renders it neutral for all tea types. We especially like this for solitary gongfu style brewing!
This is the largest among the Gaiwans. Please note that the lid sits slightly unevenly, but is still functional for brewing.
