Taiwanese Potter Yang Hui Ting creates beautiful pieces inspired by textures weathered by the passage of time, such as the discoloured surfaces of old painted wood or metal. The effect is achieved by her careful layering of coloured clay slips. Combined with her daily experiences with tea as she works with her potter-tea master husband Feng Jian Zhou, her beautiful pieces are made functional for the modern tea brewer.
Though more known for her more colourful pieces, Pekoe and Imp has curated as series of more edgy, rough pieces, including this industrial vibed piece. The choice of a dark clay slip over the green clay adds a worn and weathered look. The Gaiwan is glazed interiorly, therefore it is suited to brew all types of tea neutrally.
This piece is fired by a electric and gas hybrid kiln in the oxidation method.
