Meizi's exploration of updating the traditional Gaiwan in terms of form and texture led her to explore different combinations of colours and texture. Here she uses a Japanese glaze made of real gold to contrast with her characteristic grainy coloured clay slip Gaiwan. The result is a striking yet functional piece of teaware, which has an opulent air. The glazed interior renders the Gaiwan suitable for all teas.
