Mr Hong's exploration of interactions of clay and tea led him to using this combination of clay from his native South Korea, Russia and United States, to achieve this porous rough clay with a raw finish. The katakuchi is glazed interiorly and partially exteriorly, and the resultant surface contrast highlights the grainy clay texture at the foot of the katakuchi. We love the dark sombre character of this piece!
