Mr Hong's exploration of interactions of clay and tea led him to using this combination of clay from his native South Korea, Russia and United States, to achieve this porous rough clay with a raw finish. No glaze is used on this teapot to maximise clay interaction with tea. Mr Hong recommended roasted oolongs to be brewed with this tea for the teapot brings out the fragrance of these teas - our own experiment with our personal teapot of the same clay found similarly, that Fujian Wuyi Mountain Yancha and Guangdong Phoenix Dancong performed the best with this series of teapots! For this piece, we love the delicate detail on the handle, which contrast with the rugged character of this teapot.
Please note two things about this teapot, which is a result of the highly porous nature of the clay:
1. The teapot may sweat if left to stand for a long time with water inside.
2. This teapot is best dedicated to a certain type of tea, because some of the fragrance of the brewed tea may be retained in the teapot.
