Dancong Oolong are one of the most easily appreciated teas for its sweet and fragrant character. Though cultivars such as Ya Shi 'Duck Shit' fragrance and Honey Orchid fragrance are more well know, Ba Xian is actually the tea of choice for many local people in the Phoenix Mountains region. A slightly lighter oxidation and roast than the more well known Honey Orchids, this particular oolong brews a amber liquor with a medium body and musky floral notes that resembles chrysanthemum with honey. The floral notes linger in the nose and contrasts with the mineral undertones that is imparted from the rocky terrior of the Phoenix Mountains. The older bushes also lend a more mellow and smoother mouthfeel to the brew.
Young Mr Chen's rendition is elegant and smooth. For tea geeks, consider tasting Mr Wei's Ba Xian Dancong as well which has more robust floral flavours!
