Abraham's fascination with the skull stems from a more grounded rather than morbid concept. His love for hiking to places to experience eroding cultures in the face of rapid modernisation and westernisation of the world brought him to Tibet, among many places. And in Tibet, the skull is used in folk art and craft to symbolise the impermanence of the human life. So here on this cup hides little skull motifs to remind us that we return to dust and earth one day, where the clay comes from.
This clay that went into this cup doesn't just come from earth but it can be traced to regions in Jalan Bahar and Choa Chu Kang! The clay the travels to Ipoh to be fired in the aquagama kiln, where it is naturally glazed with fly ash during the process!
This cup has been bathed in tea and are one of the cups selected for its suitability to drink tea with. The skulls accompaniment, we think, is a nice bonus!
