Abraham Ling has only been making ceramics for 5 years, and he makes exclusively hand-pinched pieces! Looking at the beautiful forms and complex textures he creates, we were surprised at duration of his experience, but our opinion is that amount of time spent working in an occupation (pottery or not) does not always commensurate with the quality of work (pottery or otherwise)!
Here is one gorgeous wide mouth teacup with a spritely posture, made from clay harvested locally in Singapore, and fired in a aquagama kiln in Ipoh! Aquagama firing involves adding water into the anagama kiln at high temperatures to increase the temperature of the kiln. The natural fly ash during the wood firing process 'glazes' the cup naturally, and in this one bestows wood-crystals in the interior of the cup! Abraham affectionately calls this cup 'Not LV', named so because of the monogram-like appearance from the botanical-inspired stamps on the cup! The porcelain slip further adds texture to the surface of the cup, and we think enhances the flavour of tea in the cup! So much ideas going on in just a single cup!
Please take note that the cup will likely result in the cup's appearance evolving as it is used - as if it is developing a more distinct personality over time!
