We think Mr Hong Seongil is so creative, not just because of the aesthetic textures he experiments with. Every so often, he surprises us with a new form - like this shiboridashi with an upturn spot on the lid! We were curious about the pour when we first laid eyes on it, and it sure pours very nicely!
Made from iron-rich clay from Boesong, where Mr Hong Seongil residues in South Korean, this saggar-fired piece is rustic to the core, with ash glazed organically falling on the piece during the saggar firing process lending the piece its ultra-industrial personality. Saggar firing is a method where the environment is controlled by placing the piece/pieces to be fired in a heat resistant box, and in this case charcoal is placed into the box to create ash fall on the pot!
This pot is suitable for brewing more oxidised teas due to its heat retaining properties.
A handy size for kungfu-style brewing for 1-2 persons, of those precious tea stash that we can't bear to drink up too quickly!
